About NDBS
New Directions in Behaviour Support (NDBS) was set up in the early 1990s to provide networking opportunities for those working to support teachers, parents and pupils in responding to difficult and challenging behaviour. The network now extends to nearly 2000 people.

For over 10 years, NDBS has organised annual conferences for staff working across the UK. More recently, a separate event has been set up for staff working in Scotland. NDBS also organises networks specifically for Behaviour Support Service Managers. Information on forthcoming events is available on this website.

NDBS also provides a range of training for staff working in a support role.

Over the last 5 years, NDBS has also offered a consultancy service to local education authorities and national government with regard to policy and provision for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

A developing area has been work on project evaluation, where NDBS has been commissioned to carry out evaluations of a range of projects aimed at promoting social inclusion.

The emphasis of NDBS's work is on developments that can be practically achieved and sustained. All staff connected with the organisation have worked as teachers in schools as well as in support services at LEA level. They are aware of the real challenges presented by difficult pupil behaviour and are keen to identify and disseminate practical ways of addressing these.

Two edited books have been published which provide examples of the philosophy and approach adopted by some of our conference contributors. Information on these is available in our list of publications
